Flip JPG Images

Create a mirror effect instantly. Flip JPGs horizontally or vertically to correct selfies or create symmetry.

Technical Notes

Image conversion quality depends on the codec, compression ratio, and color profile of the output format. Lossy formats like JPEG discard imperceptible data to reduce file size — at 80–85% quality this is typically invisible to the human eye. Lossless formats like PNG preserve every pixel but produce larger files. EXIF metadata (camera model, GPS coordinates, date) is preserved where possible, but some browsers and privacy settings may strip it during export. All processing happens locally in your browser using WebAssembly — no file ever reaches a server.

How to Mirror an Image

1

Upload

Drop your JPG file here.

2

Flip

Use the "Flip Horizontal" or "Flip Vertical" buttons.

3

Download

Save the mirrored JPG.

Privacy First: Zero Server Uploads

Local Processing

Unlike other websites, we process your photos directly in your browser using advanced WebAssembly. This means the heavy lifting is done by your own device's CPU.

Your Files Stay Yours

Your images never leave your computer or phone. They are not uploaded to any cloud server, eliminating the risk of data leaks or privacy breaches. It's safe for personal, medical, and legal documents.

No AI Training

We respect your creative work. Since your files remain on your device, they are never used to train AI models or added to any public datasets.

Automatic Cleanup

Any temporary data created during the session is immediately cleared from your browser memory when you close the tab or refresh the page.

Deep Dive: Mirroring vs Rotating

Flipping an image is different from rotating it 180 degrees. Rotating turns the image upside down, while flipping creates a mirror reflection. Mathematically, flipping involves inverting the coordinate system along one axis (X or Y).

Device Guide

Desktop

Quickly correct webcam photos or scanned negatives on your large screen.

Mobile

Perfect for fixing selfies taken with front cameras that mirror the preview.

Design

Create symmetrical patterns or textures for creative projects.

The "Selfie Effect"

Since the first camera phones, front-facing cameras have presented a challenge. To act like a mirror, the preview is flipped. However, the saved photo is often "true," which looks wrong to the user who is used to their reflection. Flipping tools restored this "mirror reality."

Troubleshooting Flips

  • Text looks backwards? You probably need to flip Horizontally (Left-Right) to correct mirror-text.
  • Upside Down? You need a Vertical flip (Top-Bottom).
  • Combination? If an image is both upside down AND backwards, rotating 180 degrees is often the faster solution than two flips.

Why Flip Images?

Correcting Selfies

Front cameras often mirror the image, making text unreadable. Flipping horizontally restores the true view so T-shirt text is readable.

Artistic Composition

Flipping an image can sometimes improve the visual flow. In western cultures, we read left-to-right, so having action flow that way can feel more natural.

Symmetry Creation

Duplicate a layer and flip it to create perfect caleidoscope or butterfly effects.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does flipping an image reduce its quality? +

Technically, any tool that modifies a JPG pixel-by-pixel involves re-saving the file. However, our tool explicitly uses the maximum possible quality settings during this process. For the human eye, the change is imperceptible, and your image remains crisp and sharp.

What is the difference between Horizontal and Vertical flipping? +

Horizontal Flip acts like a mirror. It swaps pixels from left to right. This is used to fix backwards text. Vertical Flip turns the image upside down as if reflected in a calm lake. It swaps top pixels with bottom pixels.

Why do my selfies look weird after I take them? +

This is the "Selfie Effect." Phone cameras show you a mirror image while you are posing (so it feels natural), but they save the "true" image (what others see). Since you are used to your face in a mirror, the "true" photo often looks "wrong" or asymmetrical. Flipping it horizontally restores the mirror view you prefer.

Is flipping the same as rotating 180 degrees? +

No. Rotating 180 degrees turns the image upside down but keeps the left/right orientation relative to the image intact. Flipping creates a mirror reflection. If you flip an image Vertically AND Horizontally, then you get a result identical to a 180-degree rotation.

Is it secure to use this online tool? +

Yes, 100%. Unlike many other websites, we do not upload your images to a cloud server. All the flipping happens right inside your web browser using JavaScript. Your photos never leave your device.

Can I flip multiple photos at once? +

Yes! You can drag and drop multiple JPGs into the tool. You can then flip each one individually or apply settings to the batch, and download them all as a ZIP file.

Does flipping correct backwards text? +

Yes. If you took a photo in a mirror or with a front-facing camera and the writing on a sign or shirt is backwards, a Horizontal Flip will make it readable again.
