Rotate JPG Images

Fix wrong orientation instantly. Rotate 90 degrees left or right, or flip vertically/horizontally.

Technical Notes

Image conversion quality depends on the codec, compression ratio, and color profile of the output format. Lossy formats like JPEG discard imperceptible data to reduce file size — at 80–85% quality this is typically invisible to the human eye. Lossless formats like PNG preserve every pixel but produce larger files. EXIF metadata (camera model, GPS coordinates, date) is preserved where possible, but some browsers and privacy settings may strip it during export. All processing happens locally in your browser using WebAssembly — no file ever reaches a server.

Privacy First: Zero Server Uploads

Local Processing

Unlike other websites, we process your photos directly in your browser using advanced WebAssembly. This means the heavy lifting is done by your own device's CPU.

Your Files Stay Yours

Your images never leave your computer or phone. They are not uploaded to any cloud server, eliminating the risk of data leaks or privacy breaches. It's safe for personal, medical, and legal documents.

No AI Training

We respect your creative work. Since your files remain on your device, they are never used to train AI models or added to any public datasets.

Automatic Cleanup

Any temporary data created during the session is immediately cleared from your browser memory when you close the tab or refresh the page.

Deep Dive: EXIF vs Pixel Rotation

Sometimes, a photo looks correct on your phone but sideways on Windows. This is due to the EXIF Orientation Tag. Many viewers respect this tag, but some do not.

Our tool performs a Pixel Rotation. This means we actually move the pixels of the image to the new position. This guarantees the image looks correct on 100% of devices, websites, and printers, regardless of EXIF support.

Device Compatibility

Windows PC

Fix photos that look correct in Explorer but sideways in email clients.

Mac

Permanently rotate images so they display correctly on non-Apple devices.

Smartphones

Correct orientation issues caused by taking photos with volume buttons facing down.

The Orientation Tag

Before digital cameras had gravity sensors, all photos were landscape. Now, cameras save an "Orientation" number (1-8) in the metadata. However, legacy software ignores this number. Hard-rotating the pixels ensures compatibility with software from 1995 to 2025.

Troubleshooting Rotation

  • Rotated but still looks sideways? You might need to refresh your browser cache or the thumbnail cache on your computer.
  • Portrait became Landscape? Yes, rotating 90 degrees swaps the width and height dimensions.
  • File size changed? Re-saving the JPG structure can change the file size slightly even without visual changes.

When to Rotate?

Scanned Documents

Scanners often scan pages upside down. Rotate them 180 degrees to make them readable.

Website Uploads

Many website CMSs strip metadata, causing portrait photos to fall flat on their side. Rotate them here first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are my phone photos always sideways? +

This typically happens when you take a photo with the volume buttons facing down. The phone saves the image sideways but adds a hidden "Orientation" tag. If you view it on a device that ignores this tag (like a TV or old software), it looks wrong. Our tool fixes the actual pixels so it looks right everywhere.

Does rotating reduce image quality? +

Most rotation tools are lossless. Our tool re-saves the JPG file with maximum quality settings. While technically any save operation on a JPG is a new generation, the difference is visually impossible to see.

Can I rotate multiple images at once? +

Yes! You can upload a batch of 50 photos and click "Rotate Right" once. The tool will apply that rotation to every single image and let you download them all as a ZIP package.

Does this fix the EXIF Orientation tag? +

Yes. We perform a "hard rotation." This means we physically move the pixels to the new position and reset the Orientation tag to "Normal." This guarantees compatibility with all websites and printers.

Can I rotate by specific degrees, like 15°? +

Currently, this tool is designed for 90-degree steps (Right, Left, 180). For straightening crooked horizons (e.g. 3 degrees), you would need a "Straighten" tool.

Is it secure? +

Absolutely. Your photos are rotated locally in your browser and are never uploaded to our servers.

Privacy Guaranteed

We use WebAssembly technology. Your photos are processed in your browser, never uploaded to our servers.
